Article history: Received 18 October 2015 Received in revised form 25 January 2016 Accepted 17 February 2016 Available online 23 February 2016 Editor: M. Cvetič The non-relativistic versions of the generalized Poincaré algebras and generalized AdS-Lorentz algebras are obtained. These non-relativistic algebras are called, generalized Galilean algebras of type I and type II and denoted by GBn and GLn respectively. Using a generalized Inönü–Wigner contraction procedure we find that the generalized Galilean algebras of type I can be obtained from the generalized Galilean algebras type II. The S-expansion procedure allows us to find the GB5 algebra from the Newton Hooke algebra with central extension. The procedure developed in Ref. [1] allows us to show that the nonrelativistic limit of the five dimensional Einstein–Chern–Simons gravity is given by a modified version of the Poisson equation. The modification could be compatible with the effects of Dark Matter, which leads us to think that Dark Matter can be interpreted as a non-relativistic limit of Dark Energy. © 2016 The Authors. Exactly Soluble Sector of Quantum Gravity

Cartan’s spacetime reformulation of the Newtonian theory of gravity is a generallycovariant Galilean-relativistic limit-form of Einstein’s theory of gravity known as the Newton-Cartan theory. According to this theory, space is flat, time is absolute with instantaneous causal influences, and the degenerate ‘metric’ structure of spacetime remains fixed with two mutually orthogonal non-dynamical m...

A Chern-Simons approach to Galilean quantum gravity in 2+1 dimensions

We define and discuss classical and quantum gravity in 2+1 dimensions in the Galilean limit. Although there are no Newtonian forces between massive objects in (2+1)dimensional gravity, the Galilean limit is not trivial. Depending on the topology of spacetime there are typically finitely many topological degrees of freedom as well as topological interactions of Aharonov-Bohm type between massive...

Leibnizian, Galilean and Newtonian structures of spacetime

The following three geometrical structures on a manifold are studied in detail: Leibnizian: a non-vanishing 1-form Ω plus a Riemannian metric 〈·, ·〉 on its annhilator vector bundle. In particular, the possible dimensions of the automorphism group of a Leibnizian G-structure are characterized. Galilean: Leibnizian structure endowed with an affine connection ∇ (gauge field) which parallelizes Ω a...

Conformal Galilean-type algebras, massless particles and gravitation

After defining conformal Galilean-type algebras for arbitrary dynamical exponent z we consider the particular cases of the conformal Galilei algebra (CGA) and the Schrödinger Lie algebra (sch). Galilei massless particles moving with arbitrary, finite velocity are introduced i) in d = 2 as a realization of the centrally extended CGA in 6 dimensional phase space, ii) in arbitrary spatial dimensio...

Some Variations on Maxwell’s Equations

In the first sections of this article, we discuss two variations on Maxwell’s equations that have been introduced in earlier work—a class of nonlinear Maxwell theories with well-defined Galilean limits (and correspondingly generalized Yang-Mills equations), and a linear modification motivated by the coupling of the electromagnetic potential with a certain nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In the ...
